The search is on! UK wine chain Oddbins is currently looking for the nation's finest amateur wine taster. At any branch of Oddbins, anyone who sees themselves as a master wine taster can enter The Palate competition by taking part in a blind wine tasting. Entrants will have to try two wines and answer some questions on the entry form. Those lucky enough to get through to the next rounds could have the opportunity to go on a wine tasting bootcamp with various Masters of Wine. For the winner, the prize is a week long holiday to South Africa and other prizes include a long weekend in the Veneto and a day course at the Raymond Blanc Cookery School, "Le Manoir aux Quat'Saisons".
Oddbins have organized the competition to try and bust the myth that wine tasting is hard, and also to bring wine tasting to "normal" people, and not just for the wine elite. If you think that this sounds like something for you, Round One is still on at Oddbins this weekend (27-28 June). For more information visit the Oddbins website.
