In France, they obviously believe in starting creating wine-makers at an early age...

The Bordeaux Wine Bureau (CIVB) has started a programme together with regional junior school called "La Gironde Verte" and has the aim of teaching children from the ages of 6 to 10 all about seasons in the vines, how to taste grapes to check if they are ripe and encourage them to ask wine-makers questions about their job.

CIVB In an interview with Decanter.com, CIVB president, Georges Haushalter, said that they were hoping that this initiative, which is 100% funded by the CIVB, "will be an effective way to introduce the young people of our region to the environmental and economic importance of the wine industry."

The programme includes materials in the form of "vine" notebooks for the children and transport to and from wineries, as the practical part of the course is as important as the theory.

Hopefully this type of course will produce the great enologists, agronomists and sommeliers of the future!
